In Mozambique, 60% of the population cannot read. It is predominantly an oral culture where storytelling and the spoken word are the primary ways a message is delivered and understood.

The Bible Society in Mozambique recognises that providing printed Bibles is not the most effective way to share God’s Word in this context. Their Faith Comes by Hearing project presents the Word of God using Audio Bibles. The initiative brings people together to listen to a recorded Bible, in the local language, for at least 30 minutes each week. Group participants hear and are then invited to discuss the message. Sometimes whole villages hear God’s Word from just one audio device – and many lives have already been transformed in this way.
